Literacy skills – Started  Unit Three

Connections between Sounds and Symbols.  Learned the sounds and symbols for, m, a, t, d.

Student's continued to practice blending sounds into words.  

 

Math Bridges - Started Unit Two: Numbers to Ten

In this unit your child will:

❚ Quickly recognize how many objects are in a collection (up to 5) without counting

❚ Compare sets using the words more and less

❚ Develop number sense with combinations that make 5, and then 10

❚ Count objects and match the quantity to the written numeral

❚ Build with two-dimensional shapes Your child will learn and practice these skills by solving problems like those shown below. Keep this sheet for reference when you’re helping with homework.

Second Step - Lesson 2: Focusing Attention

  • Focusing attention involves using eyes, ears, and brain.

  • Using self-talk helps you focus attention.

  • Begin learning the words to “The Learner Song.”

 

Art: Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate

 

Music & Movement- Students will continue to practice cooperation through the game “Scootermania”. Your child will also start learning about the 3 components of health - healthy mind, healthy body, and getting along with others (social/emotional health) and we’ll talk about different feelings and ways to calm down when we are having strong feelings.

 

Notes and Reminders:

  • October 26th - Pops and Pumpkins 5:00 - 6:30 Gunnison Elementary School

  • October 27th pumpkin hunt

  • Library - Please read your book and bring it back before next Friday to check out a new one.

  • October 31 – Classroom party at 2:00. Please bring a potluck dish to share with the class (or just show up). We will eat then play a few games. Parade around the school at 2:45. After the parade, you are welcome to take your child to GES for more parties if necessary.

  • The first week of November – Parent-teacher conferences.

  • The Scholastic and Usborne Book Fair November 6-10 from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm  (on Friday the 10th, they will close at 4 pm) GCS Library

 Hints for Home:

Read each day with your child for at least 20 minutes

Practice tying shoes

Count to 20

Recognize and build sets to 10 using fingers, five-frames and ten-frames, and objects Count, order, and compare numbers to 10

Write numerals to 10
